The desire to do something for children with disabilities led our Founders to establish, Ashayen Centre, earlier known as The Spastics Centre, Kanpur. Ashayen began in April 1990 with just 21 children, becoming the first centre of its kind in Uttar Pradesh. We started primarily for children with Cerebral Palsy. However, with growing awareness and support from foreign and local donors we are fortunate to be serving more children and young adults, we have broadened our scope over the years to include children with Mental Retardation, Autism, and Multiple Disabilities. Ashayen specializes in physiotherapy for those with cerebral palsy and we are continually building expertise in handling other disabilities as well. We have been providing services at minimal fees as most of our students come from poor families. Our services in education and physiotherapy compare with the best available in India. Ashayen (which means “hopes” in Hindi), is a beacon for hundreds of families in Kanpur.
